A while ago I mentioned that I was going to talk about my favorite small electric appliances. Number one on my list is the electric pressure cooker. I have a Nesco but there are many different brands. Mine is a refurbished one which costs less (about $55) and it works beautifully. I cook a lot and it makes a meal in no time. As a lot of you know, I make a lot of soup. This cooker is such a time saver. Even if you have a chunk of frozen meat, you can cook it perfectly in no time. Two days ago I made chicken soup. It took about 30-40 minutes from from start with frozen chicken legs to finish. I put the frozen chicken in with some chicken broth. I pressured it for twenty minutes. While that was happening, I cut up carrots, celery, onion and garlic in my Vidalia which I mentioned in a previous post. After twenty minutes, I took out the chicken to cool and put in the veggies. I pressured them for ten minutes while I removed the meat from the legs. I added in the meat and there you have it. I usually cook a few noodles on the side because my family doesn't always care for certain noodles.
Thank you for the information. Had you used a stove top pressure cooker before getting this electric one? Are there different model numbers? My parents always used the stove top kind, it scared me. I have never used one and want my Mom to show me safely how to use it. Now from your posting, it seems like the Nesco is better. Do you brown the meat first and then put it on pressure? Where did you get a refurbished one?
ReplyDeleteI had stovetop many years ago. They scared me too. Things burned if there wasn't enough liquid. They sounded like they were going to take off if the heat was too high. I didn't like it, but liked the idea. I don't think the Nesco digital is any better but it was a good name and price. If the meat is frozen and I am making soup, I don't brown the meat. If I'm making chili or something like that, I brown right in the cooker. Then add liquid and pressure. It doesn't make a sound, and the digital read out counts down. If you don't get to it right away, it goes to the warm cycle and stays warm. You can let it release the pressure naturally or release it right away without getting burned. It is also a slow cooker and a steamer. As I said, it is my favorite small appliance. I ordered it from Tanga.com. I got one for Heather for Christmas also. She really likes it. She can come home from work and put in frozen food and eat in no time. Sometimes with the slow cooker, it would be overdone before they could eat. I think food is healthier because all the nutrients are infused. I hope this helps. I would be happy to answer any more questions. Bottom line is it's safe.
